I have been CrossFitting now for three months with the Black Box. I have been competing in sport since the age of 2 when I started gymnastics.
Now, after 28 years I have found my home as an athlete - how I wish I had happened on CrossFit long ago. This is by far the hardest I have ever worked and the most fun I have ever had in pursuit of skill and athleticism.
I expect the games to be a showcase and celebration of the best and most dedicated CrossFitters. Of course, I expect the level of competition to be exceptional - the intensity to be unparalleled. I am honored just to be in the presence of my CrossFit role models (that I watch endless video hours of all night long). I embrace the opportunity to go head to head with other athletes that hold the CrossFit philosophy of elite fitness and competition as sacred as I do.
As a relative CrossFit newcomer, my weakness is my unfamiliarity with the movements and lack of experience. My personal philosophy is that success lies in the art of practice and I wish I had more time leading up to the games to do so. I do know however that I am a fierce competitor with unbreakable spirit. I play to win and I never ever give up. My strength lies in my ability to focus under any conditions.
I have no idea, nor do I have enough experience to venture a guess as to what the events will be. I'd love to see lots of pull-ups and handstand push-ups (anything upper body), please no wall-ball.
My strategy has been to stick straight to the WOD's as rx'd with some skill work in the areas that I have never done before such as the Olympic lifts. I still do quite a bit of additional running as it is in the nature of my job. Other than that, my level of fitness comes from play. I've never met a monkey bar that I didn't do pull-ups on or a tree that I couldn't climb. So basically, I plan to have a great time, meet great people, be inspired, enjoy every aspect of each event and perform the only way I know how - 110%.
