What are the CrossFit Games?

“In implementation, this looks like sport. This is revolutionary. It's as distinctive of the program as are the movements and the charter of functionality and variance. Our workouts are competitive events.

The strength and value of CrossFit lies entirely within our dominance of other athletes. This is a truth divined through competition, not debate.”

Mike's thoughts on the Games
I have no idea what to expect from the games. I have been told that it will be a totally different format than last year. So, I feel the best way to train is by doing the WOD. I follow the 3 on 1 off cycle. I have added some extra strength and skill training, as well. I have definitely been hitting it pretty hard. Luckily, I have a couple of amazing athletes to compete with at my gym. Because of them, I am able to keep putting up PR's.

Diet:
I am zoning pretty hard. Lately I have been measuring everything and I feel great. I started being extremely strict a couple months ago. I had the games in mind when making that decision.

Mental:
I'm definitely a little nervous going into the games. There is going to be some amazing athletes there with a lot more experience. But you never know...all my strengths might come out of that hopper. I think my best chance will be with some heavy weight workouts. I don't know that I will be able to keep up with the bodyweight stuff. Regardless, I will give it all I've got and hope for the best. I do plan on taking down Freddy C. in the shoulder press. What is he up to, now?

I've been working with Freddy for 4 months now. he actually just Pr'd his press on Friday. And by the looks of how it shot up, I predict he coulda done about 10lbs. more maybe. I believe he got 211.

Looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the amazing athletes that I'm aspiring to be like. Here are some of my numbers:

M/32/5'9"/186

Deadlift= 400
Press= 170
Squat= 335

Fran= 4:29 (I know I can get Sub 4 very soon! ONly 2 attempts)
Elizabeth= 6:59 (1 attempt)
Murph= 42:38 (1 attempt)
Cindy= 24rds.( 1 attempt)
Grace= 3:06 ( 1 attempt)

there are so many exercises that I've never done, and so many I've done only once. I can't wait to have another crack at the benchmarks another time, and others for the first time. I've only been crossfitting almost 4 months now, and i feel I'm starting halfway decent. One day, I hope to have my numbers more respectful. Working with amazing examples like Jolie Gentry & Freddy Camacho is definitely an advantage.

I can't wait to meet so many of you. I've never been an autograph hound or picture taker with celebrities, I never really cared. But Coach, Nicole C., Eva, OPT, Speal, Dutch, and others, I'm apologizing ahead of time because I'm definitely going to be seeking you out for some pics. I've been a personal trainer and in the area of fitness for most of my life, and I've never been this inspired.

Nice profile Mike. It's awesome to see how far you've come. You really inspire me to push myself to the limit and beyond. I'm just glad I have the same genes. I feel like I have an advantage, haha. Well hopefully I can train with you before we get to the games. Hope to see you soon.

Good luck Mike - hopefully pullups will come out of the hopper. Your video on the butterfly version has been really helpful btw.

Mike G.-

Outrageous numbers, the OHS squat really made my jaw drop! I am sure you can take me in a press off :-) I talk a big game, but really I am just a slightly above average Crossfitter who is just looking forward to hanging out with you and the other great athletes that will be at the Crossfit Games.

Your butterfly vid was cool. It led to several One World folks learning how to perform the movement. Thanks a lot. That's three or four more athletes that kick my ass in pull-ups now :-)~

Will-

I think your post was a little out of place. Your exuberance is bubbling over! You have drank a few too many gulps of koolaid.

Dave C.-

It brings up a good idea: How about another article were guys and gals attending the games can post their benchmark numbers for others to see. That might be interesting!

From what I saw of you in Charlotte you will have no problems at the Games. You are an amazing athlete and look forward to seeing your performance.

Hey everyone, sorry for the long post above. I thought more people would be doing that to get to know eachother. I know now that wasn't appropriate. I feel like a tool. I'm going back to my hole now.

By Will B. OneWorld CA on June 2, 2008 8:58 PM

Mike G - it was great meeting you again man at the SE challenge!

Good luck at the games and get your deadlift up!

Add some GHR's to your warmup - your dl will shoot up 15 kilos in 2 weeks and you'll lock out anything above the knees!

I'll be there next year!
