What are the CrossFit Games?

“In implementation, this looks like sport. This is revolutionary. It's as distinctive of the program as are the movements and the charter of functionality and variance. Our workouts are competitive events.

The strength and value of CrossFit lies entirely within our dominance of other athletes. This is a truth divined through competition, not debate.”

Oakland Prepares for 09 - Part 1

CrossFit Oakland took the 08 Affiliate Cup with a dominant performance. What are they up to now, you ask? We sent Sevan and Carey to find out. They caught up with them on Saturday, Dec 20th, 2008 in the middle of an internal team competition. The workout was three teams of three athletes competing in a Linda-type workout. They're looking damn strong, too!

The Affiliate competition in 09 will be team workouts. What that means at this point is anyone's guess. We do know the majority of the competition will take place on the Friday before the individual competition, with only the top five teams going on to the Finals on Sunday morning.

Got anything to rival Oakland? Let us know. We'd love to post it here. Contact Tony for information about sending in video and photos.

Preparing to represent the Midwest! Can anyone tell me what his winning number was for the CF Total?

By silverback on December 27, 2008 3:07 PM

~1300 and probably about 100-200 more now.

By steven on December 27, 2008 4:26 PM

That is huge. 1285 for me about 3 months ago. I'm am definitely stonger while carrying more bodyfat and keeping the calories high. However, in preparation for something like the CF Games, I will definitely work on my speed and power vs. absolute strength. I anticipate cutting 20-25 lbs. It's a mental hang-up because I love the strength stuff but I have to look at it now as.."What do I need to get better at?" I will without a doubt loose some strength but I think it's worth the sacrifice. Fairly doubtful they would put the CF Total back into the games? Any opinions of thoughts on staying strong vs. cutting weight?

By silverback on December 27, 2008 4:43 PM

maintain strength while cutting weight is doable.
