What are the CrossFit Games?

“In implementation, this looks like sport. This is revolutionary. It's as distinctive of the program as are the movements and the charter of functionality and variance. Our workouts are competitive events.

The strength and value of CrossFit lies entirely within our dominance of other athletes. This is a truth divined through competition, not debate.”

Greg Glassman, CrossFit Co-Founder & CEO
3, 2, 1 — GO!

The Games are over and the results are in!

The Top Female CrossFitter for 2008 is Caity Matter of Gahanna, OH, where she trains with Rogue Fitness. Tanya Wagner took second place and Gillian Mounsey took third.

The Top Male CrossFitter for 2008 is Jason Khalipa of CrossFit Unlimited in Milpitas, CA. Josh Everett came in second, with Jeremy Thiel in third.

The Affiliate Cup was won by the team from CrossFit Oakland.

Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to all the volunteers, spectators, and competitors for a great weekend!

Aww yaaa keep those newsflashes comin'!!

By Fredastere on July 5, 2008 9:04 AM

Just done the deadlift/burpee split. That was hell and that was in my local gym! Ill see you there next year!

By Charles townend on July 5, 2008 9:52 AM

Fredastere I'm not seeing any newsflashes when I click on the link. Are you seeing something I am not?

By Adam/TempleOwl on July 5, 2008 9:52 AM

I'm not seeing any results either, but maybe it's just to early in the competition right now, but I'll be looking for some results soon

By Njama on July 5, 2008 9:53 AM

I'm not seeing anything niether...

just hit refresh until something pops-out hehe

First wave must not even be finish tho

and then the second one will start almost as it finishs.

They should have made a deal with some TV companie or something to broacast it!!!

*waiting patiently and hitting refresh every couple of minutes*

By Fredastere on July 5, 2008 10:09 AM

Yeah, at Crossfit NC I did the run, Fran, and the DL/Burpee WOD all as rx'd with ten minutes rest between each.

4 hours might have been a little nicer.

I have a feeling I'll be checking this page obsessively over the next 48 hours.

By Mini T on July 5, 2008 10:09 AM

I'm sure they want to use a lot of the footage for the Crossfit documentary, but yeah - some live streaming feed would be really nice. Next your HQ?

By Brian PCF on July 5, 2008 10:22 AM

"They should have made a deal with some TV companie or something to broacast it!!!"

Coach mentioned that ESPN was shooting footage at the games on the mainsite!

"*waiting patiently and hitting refresh every couple of minutes*"

You have much more patience than myself. Crossfit is my crack, I need my fix DAMMIT!

By Adam/TempleOwl on July 5, 2008 10:29 AM

going crazy here -

I had to cancel a trip down there this morning at the last second.

By brad g - cfo on July 5, 2008 10:50 AM

"Crossfit is my crack"- so funny! I said the same thing this morning....I have to take a week off due to injury, and when I saw the WOD today, I so wanted to play. I'm not sure if I can sit on the sidelines for a week, but I know in my head I need to - I too may have a problem, haha...Crossfit is like breathing to me, and there's no where I feel more alive than at my box...

By Aims on July 5, 2008 11:33 AM

Crossfit is my crack - too true for comfort.

And we're in cold turkey - everyone is at Freddy's RV sipping margueritas instead of sorting out the updates...

By Slowjoe on July 5, 2008 12:09 PM

I know a little. Speal got a 2:41 on the deadlift workout and Dutch got a 2:51. That's from Ken C. He also said the fastest hill run was 3:29. OPT's Fran time was 3:53 and Freddy's was 5:06. That's a little slower than normal.

W00t w00t

info is starting to leak out!!

By Fredastere on July 5, 2008 12:23 PM

For love of God thank you Andy P! BTW while I have been waiting for updates, I have been practicing handstands. Just set a PR of 32 seconds, I am now going to try and top that.

By Adam/TempleOwl on July 5, 2008 12:25 PM

Andy P..finally...thanks!
Any word on how the big guys did on the Deadlift/Bupee and the Fran?

By Shane S on July 5, 2008 12:31 PM

Thank you Andy P! Sweet merciful crap that's fast on the deadlifts...Amazing. Did anyone break a three minute Fran? I'm really looking forward to next year when this will be, at the very least, webcast.

By conorb on July 5, 2008 12:31 PM

I'd love some info on how Josh Everett and Matt Murski are doing. Any of the tall guys, I just don't see how anyone much past 5'8" has a prayer against performances like we're seeing from Speal and Dutch.

By conorb on July 5, 2008 12:35 PM

thank you for the info Andy !

Those chest to bar pull-ups are definitely making fran a lot more painful !

By Richard Vanmeerbeek on July 5, 2008 12:42 PM

Conorb, are you saying "short guys" have an advantage in XFIT? According to the "horsepower formula" you might be right.....Distance travelled you know?

By XFITWANNABE on July 5, 2008 12:46 PM

I heard a lot of people have to re-do reps on Fran. Pull-up standard.

By brad gi on July 5, 2008 12:46 PM

Yeah, it's no secret that being short can convey some huge advantages. Now, when they break out the rowers on sunday you'll see the big guys start to shine a bit more. But on balance, I think there's far more in crossfit that the short guys have the edge on. (Full disclosure, I'm 6'5" and curse my long limbs and heavy body every time I step foot into the gym.)

By conorb on July 5, 2008 12:50 PM

Heard a little more. Fran times are real down. People are deciding it's better to break up the pullups. OPT was doing singles at the end. Speal won the deadlift thing and was apparently neck and neck with a guy named Ricky Frausto but Ricky got fouled on some of his lifts and came in 2nd.

Some guy named Mike Giradino or something like that got a bunch of no counts on the thrusters during Fran that hurt his time.

Bionic got a 4:20 or 4:30 on the Fran.

Josh Everett came in 2nd in the hill climb in his first round but he was wrecked. People had to carry him off cos he was so tired.

That's all I know. Sorry the info is so sporadic. People are texting me.

By Andy P 41 YOA 6'3" 200 guy on July 5, 2008 1:00 PM

Sorry. Results are posted and a lot of my info was wrong. Just gossip I guess.

By andy P 41 YOA 6'3" 200 guy on July 5, 2008 1:10 PM

Andy P...where are the results posted? am I missing something?

By LFei on July 5, 2008 1:38 PM

Just got the top three from each event after the first round - thought I'd share:

1 - Matt Chan - 2:33
2 - Speal - 2:41
3 - Jeremy Jones - 2:42

Breck Berry - 3:25
Jess Bloomberg - 3:25
Josh Everet - 3:44

Jeff Tincher - 3:33
OPT - 3:51
Jason Kalitua - 3:56

Hope we get some more official results soon - as far as I know, there's nothing official posted yet!

By Andy Petranek on July 5, 2008 1:54 PM

LFei, the results are at the main games page. http://games2008.crossfit.com

Also, Josh Everett was not 3rd in the run. Roland Cantu was 3rd with 3:33.

By MB on July 5, 2008 2:03 PM

I wonder how round 2 is going...

By kam on July 5, 2008 4:32 PM

speal is in first after 2 RDS, still has the run left which he won last year.

By wasatch damon on July 5, 2008 5:14 PM

That is a pretty inhuman effort by Speal on the deadlift thing; I believe that is more than 2x body weight for him.

By a noble on July 5, 2008 5:41 PM

It's 0359 on 080706 here in Iraq and I am loving the updates. I can't sleep.

Way to put out guys and gals, keep up the great work!

By Wayne on July 5, 2008 6:00 PM
