Men's Run 1820 Heat
Here is the video from the run that Bionic was talking about. This was also a heat stacked with talent (the finishing order is listed in the above linked entry). Chris Spealler's finish time of 3:22 was the second best time of the day.
Watching Speal run up the second loop (from about 2:15 - 2:30 of the video) might give the impression that the hill wasn't that bad. Compare that to the footage from 3:00 - 3:20 of the video, noting that this footage is sped up. And, Speal did no running to prepare for the 08 Games (similar to Josh Everett).

I LOVE that photo of all the elite guys from that heat sitting next to each other after the run. They look more like a team who just suffered together than they do competitive adversaries. Beautiful.
Oh, and I don't see a link to any video...
. . . they're all sitting together because they can't walk . . . ;-)
Thanks Mini T. It's amazing how difficult it is to watch the video without a link. Should be there now.
awesome!
i don't like to run either
yeah Pat! that acceleration at the top of that hill was motivating
Tony: "So dude, you didn't no running for this?"
Speal: "No!"
Tony: "Why"
Speal: "I don't like to run!"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
That was one of the best videos posted on here! It was highly motivational for me, especially today after we did "Nicole" and I puked twice in the runs.
Great to see how hard these athletes push.
WOW, i don't know if to take this as good or bad memories, lol. I don't like running either and i did a lot of running for this event...just not up any hills, and it didn't help me a bit. Granted it was my last event! Can't wait till 2009!
Just when I think I've put that run out of my mind! The nervous tension at the start line was so intense, Rob Miller was losing it because he was so excited and he wasn't even running!
That still is the craziest thing I've ever attempted athletically, that last hill felt like it was straight up. The video of the big downhill made it seem almost like I was in the main pack but it was that last hill that sunk me. Watching everyone run to the finish line with Bambi legs is so funny but after 2 previous event I'm thinking we were running on fumes.
I can't believe they cut the video short during OPT's giant roar of glory; that run was the finish of a looooong journey for the both of us...
I just watched it again and I wanted to say my man Jeff Flemming ROCKED that run, what a great performance. What an amazing weekend we all had.
Wow...that brought back bad memories. I died on that damn hill.
Greatest picture I've seen in a long time.
I liked seeing a really good video of that hill compared to previous ones to show what a SOB that hill was. I hated it.
However...I want a rematch.
