What are the CrossFit Games?

“In implementation, this looks like sport. This is revolutionary. It's as distinctive of the program as are the movements and the charter of functionality and variance. Our workouts are competitive events.

The strength and value of CrossFit lies entirely within our dominance of other athletes. This is a truth divined through competition, not debate.”

Women's Thruster/Pull-up 0920 Heat

Games08WomensThruster0920_th.jpgEnlarge image

The 9:20am heat of the Thruster/Pull-up workout was stacked with talent. Shown in the picture are Jolie Gentry (the 07 Games overall winner) from CrossFit One World, Maggie Dabe-Colby from CrossFit Fairfax, and Gillian Mounsey (3rd overall in the 08 Games) from CrossFit NYC.

The workout was 3 rounds, 21-15-9, of 65lb thrusters and pull-ups with the additional requirement that the chest physically come into contact with the bar for the rep to count. This chest-to-bar requirement seemed to add about 50% to most of these athletes' PRs when just going chin over the bar. The finishing order for this heat was:

Gillian Mounsey 5:16
Jolie Gentry 5:43
Caity Matter 6:58
Kallista Pappas 7:50
Dani Martin 8:03
Jodi Bainbridge 8:04
Jenni Orr 8:33
Maggie Dabe-Colby 8:56
Nicki Violetti 9:37
Karen Douglas 9:58
Michele Vieux 10:41
Laurah Hawkins 7:12 (jumping pull-ups)

The first 39 seconds of that video were awesome(soundtrack wise), then it got lame IMHO. I wish they would have picked a better song after the build up. Say what you will about the old gymjones videos, but Mark Twight has good taste in music.

The ladies did an awesome job, I bet all that dirt in the air didn't help their times as well.

Wow. I got just the opposite felling when "Click. Click. Boom." started. That video gave me goosebumps and I don't even like that song. I guess you had to be there.

Jolie was awesome that entire weekend. Would have loved to seen some more footage of Gillian too.

Ha! Jolie had the same judge that I had in the following heat. I have nightmares about that guy shaking his head at me when I didn't quite smack the bar with my chest!

Nice work Jolie!
